Romney announcing VP pick via iPhone, Android App

The Washington Times reports that the campaign for presidential candidate Mitt Romney has released an app that will break the news on his VP pick before anywhere else.  The app is available for iPhone and Android platforms.  The app is available at www.mittromney.com/app/vp

Beth Myers, Senior Adviser to Mr. Romney states:

“There’s no telling when that answer might come. But when it does, be the first to find out and access exclusive content,”

The tactic is interesting in that it displays a technology embrace from the Romney camp that had fumbled previously with their approach.  Recent accusations of fake Twitter followers, a misspelling in a previous app and a lack of tact altogether by the Romney camp have dogged the campaign.  In a June 19th article, Obama’s Big Data Play, the differences between the two campaigns were explored.    It is clear now at this point that given the amount of funding the Romney camp has, they are trying to close the gap and they’re up against the clock.  Technology and social media have played a significant role in recent politics and this year will prove no different.
