Pentaho Allies with Cisco for New Analytics Appliance

Pentaho logoPentaho unveiled a new Cisco Unified Computing system developed specifically to run its data integration and visualization platform.

The new solution is comprised of Cisco UCS 6200 series fabric interconnectors, 2200 series fabric extenders, the vendor’s M3 rack-mount Intel servers and a couple of other components. Pentaho is touting several benefits that can be realized by using the system in conjunction with its hardware, including seamless integrated with existing BI tools and ease-of-use.

In addition, the platform doesn’t necessitate bringing new talent aboard thanks to the visualization layer, while at the same time eliminating yet another medium – data warehouses. Pentaho says that its technology makes it possible to stream data directly into reports, reducing the time it takes to get results to the business users they’re meant for.

This all runs on top of the Cisco appliance, which should make it easier for customers interested in a simplified deployment.

“This joint effort makes Pentaho available to the expanding group of Cisco’s customers that is constantly looking for new ways to help streamline and simplify data center operations,” said Eddie White, Executive Vice President of Business Development at Pentaho. “Pentaho gives these enterprises confidence that their developers and analysts can use one integrated solution for business analytics and data integration to get up to speed fast with big data initiatives.”

Pentaho’s technology is very reliant on Hadoop, and the firm is expanding its ecosystem in this direction as well. The company broadened its partnership with Cloudera a couple months ago via a joint effort to certify its flagship solution, Business Analytics 4.5, for Cloudera’s Hadoop distribution. The integration covers the creation of visual interfaces for the file system as well as BI-oriented capabilities such as task orchestration and data manipulation.
