Watch Live: HP Discover 2013 Hints at SDN, Flash and Open Source Future
The stage is set for HP Discover 2013 at the Venetian|Palazzo meeting center and Sands Convention Center in Las Vegas which will kick off tomorrow, June 11, 2013, and will run through the 13th. We’ll be broadcasting live from theCUBE for the entire event, so be sure to tune into SiliconANGLE.tv for all-day coverage, featuring exclusive interviews and analysis.
HP is expected to shed more light in the company’s long term goals in the storage services market, particularly with Flash technology and software-defined storage, all relying heavily on fully integrating its previously acquired storage solution 3PAR.
What to expect at HP Discover 2013: read Flash, 3PAR + More.
As HP’s traditional storage continues to collapse under its own weight, its converged storage solution has been doing very well. HP’s converged storage solutions increased by 48 percent from last year to $349 million and within that, sales of 3PAR equipment soared by 82 percent while its traditional storage declined by one third to $508 million.
3PAR is a traditional scale-up model that produces a range of products, such as hardware disk arrays and storage management software. And though it’s expensive, it is robust, reliable and available. While Flash carries three markets (Flash storage on servers, Flash-only storage arrays, and traditional storage arrays), HP believes that its existing architecture can easily adapt to Flash and its stack will be better for the enterprise.
As Wikibon Chief Analyst Dave Vellante points out, HP needs to shrink to grow by getting their organic inventions out of HP Labs and into the pipelines and this includes Flash. We expect HP to unveil something with regards to its Flash strategy, as well as new addition to 3PAR at Discover 2013.
