How Google + Others are Building a New Brain for Your Home
Google launched Chromecast, a USB key-like device that would allow you to stream online content to your TV and be controlled by your Android, iOS, OS X, Windows, or Chrome OS device while Revolv managed to make Google Glass functional in controlling home devices such as turn lights on or off, unlock a Yale Lock, play music on a Sonos music player, or even change the color of the light emitted by a Philips Hue light.
Microsoft Research, the R&D division for the Redmond company, has added Lab of Things to HomeOS – a “platform that bridges this gap by presenting users and developers with a PC-like abstraction for technology in the home.”
Victor Johansson showcased a series of Internet-connected devices in his degree project which included the Event Clock, Tangible Alarm and Ceramic Stereo.
4 Life-Logging Apps that Won’t Kill Your Battery
Saga has updated its life-logging apps which now features social sharing aside from fixing the app so it won’t take a toll on your battery’s life. With the update, Saga users can now share their progress, goals or get insight from other Saga users. Saga believes that other people’s input and encouragement is vital for people to reach their goals. Other life-logging apps that aren’t ruthless in your device’s battery includes Lifebox, Lift and Flava.
Social Headphones + Smart Socks : Connected + Motivated Fitness
It’s one thing to make use of fitness apps, but everything seems more fun and accurate when you use gadgets to help you along the way. Muzic, the social sharing headphones was announced and is expected to go on sale later this year. This will help you share your favorite tunes, like your tunes during workout, with others, or be inspired with other’s workout music. Two new fitness gadgets, the Kreyos and the Sensoria Smart Sock Fitness Tracker with the electronic anklet, are both Indiegogo projects that many are investing in.
