3 Things to Expect From the Galaxy Note 3 at IFA 2013
I’d say we have ourselves a tradition – for the third consecutive year, Samsung will be unveiling the newest iteration of its Galaxy Note line at the IFA technology conference in Berlin. Just two days before IFA kicks off on September 4, Samsung will hold its own press event to unbox the Galaxy Note 3. The phone maker sent out invites this morning for the event, called “Samsung Unpacked 2013,” and will be live-streamed via the web. Fear not state-side folks, Samsung will host a press event at the same time in New York City’s Times Square, where watchers and hands-on’ers alike will be able to take part in the action.
Here’s a rundown of what we expect from Samsung at IFA this year.
3 things to expect from the Galaxy Note 3:
- Android 4.3
The new Android 4.3 OS was announced on July 24th. So far the list of smartphones that support it is short: Nexus 4, Nexus 7, Nexus 10, and as of today, Google Play editions of the HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4 round out the list. It is fully expected that the Galaxy Note 3 will come with the Android 4.3 OS.
- Samsung Eye-Tracking Technology
Samsung recently introduced its new eye-tracking technology. It is believed that we will see a “simplified” version of this eye-tracking technology on the Galaxy Note 3 in the form of Eye Scroll and Eye Pause. Users will have the ability to pause videos when their eyes move away from the screen. This means your attention could be diverted (coworker) and the video you were watching will pause. This is no small leap in technology.
- 13 Megapixel Camera
The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is expected to be packed with a 13-megapixel camera. For context, excluding the Noxia Lumia 1020 (41 megapixel), all of the other top phones – HTC One (4 megapixel), iPhone 5 (8 megapixel), Nexus 4 (8 megapixel), Moto X (10 megapixel) don’t have nearly as much megapixel-power.

Here is a full list of all of the specs we expect to see for the Samsung Galaxy Note 3:
- 5.7-inch 1080p screen
- Super AMOLED or Super LCD display (depending on country)
- Trademark S Pen stylus
- LTE Advanced
- Android 4.3
- 3GB RAM
- Choice of either 16GB, 32GB or 64GB of built in storage
- 13 megapixel camera with optical image stabilization and a range of advanced features
Side note: Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch could very well steal the Galaxy Note 3’s thunder at IFA this year. We all know the “rumors” (they aren’t rumors anymore) that Apple has been working on the iWatch. Microsoft is even rumored to be working on a Surface-based wearable computer (geek speak for smartwatch).
Samsung’s Galaxy Gear smartwatch is coming at the IFA technology conference in Berlin. Its trademark filing confirmed the rumors, and with the community of sources confirming Samsung’s announcement, expect the Galaxy Gear to steal the show.
