Google Quickoffice Now Available for FREE for EVERYONE

In June, Microsoft finally made Office Mobile available for iOS users, which allowed them to edit or create MS docs on the go. The only catch is you have to be an Office 365 subscriber to use the app.  So even though the app is free, it’s useless unless you have an Office 365 subscription.

In a not-so-surprising move, Google has once again pulled the rug from under Microsoft’s feet by announcing that Quickoffice, its app that allows iOS and Android users convert MS documents to Google Docs, is now free for everyone to use.

“Everyone likes free stuff, which is why starting today we’re making Quickoffice available for free, for everyone. With Quickoffice, you can edit Microsoft® Office documents across your devices, giving you the freedom to work with anyone no matter what hardware or software they’re using. Quickoffice also integrates seamlessly with Google Drive storage so you can safely access your files from anywhere. And while the easiest thing to do is simply convert your old files to Google Docs, Sheets and Slides, Quickoffice gives you another way to work with people who haven’t gone Google yet,” Google VP of Engineering Alan Warren announced on Google’s blog.

When Google acquired Quickoffice in June 2012 it became a part of Google’s Apps for Business, which meant it was free to download for paying customers.  There was limited access to Quickoffice but it opened doors for Google to infiltrate the enterprise as more consumers now see Google Docs as a viable replacement for Microsoft Office.

You can now download the free Quickoffice for Android and iOS app without paying a cent.  To use it, you just need to use your Google Account to access the app and start accessing your files. As an added bonus, if you login with your Google Account on your Quickoffice app for Android or iOS by September 26, 2013, you will get an extra 10GB of Google Drive storage free for the next two years.
