NetApp Making More Friends to Extend Channel Reach

Storage vendor NetApp is expanding in all directions with an aggressive partnering strategy that earned it two new alliances and a major channel victory in the past week alone. The most notable of these is the partnership with Verizon to make Data ONTAP available for the carrier’s cloud users.

Data ONTAP is a storage operating system that represents the core pillar of NetApp’s plan to reposition itself at the center of the enterprise cloud ecosystem. Verizon customers will be able to leverage the platform to simplify data management across their off-premise ONTAP deployments and abstract physical storage into VSAs that simplify service delivery while improving resource utilization.

Phil Brotherton, the head of NetApp’s Cloud Solutions Group, noted that his company is “committed to working with Verizon and other leading service provider visionaries to unlock the value of our software in innovative software-defined cloud architectures that bring more choices and new value to customers. As enterprises increasingly look to combine public and on-premises cloud resources to optimize IT efficiency and business flexibility, Data ONTAP provides a universal data management platform to facilitate data and workload movement across multicloud environments.”

Shortly after publicizing the partnership with Verizon, NetApp revealed that it has teamed up with the Texas-based LiveIT Consulting Group to make Data ONTAP more accessible for local clients.

The LiveIT alliance was announced in conjunction with the addition of five new customers to NetApp and Tripwire’s joint energy management offering. The Tripwire NERC Solution Suite is a collection of tools and services that aim to make it easier for utilities to maintain compliance with North American Electric Reliability Corporation standards on critical infrastructure protection.

NetApp’s channel expansion doesn’t come at the expense of engineering. Earlier this month, the company introduced an industry-first optical SAS implementation that gives the data center more wiggle room on rack arrangements.
