IBM bolsters analytics lineup with cognitive computing capabilities
IBM promises to bring the power of Watson to the enterprise with a set of cutting edge solutions for collecting and analyzing information at scale. Announced this week during the company’s annual Information on Demand Forum, the new offerings aim to “help companies more easily predict and respond to opportunities and challenges hidden in data.”
“As the value of data continues to grow, the differentiator for clients will be around predicting what could happen to help transform their business with speed and conviction,” commented Steve Mills the head of software and systems at IBM. “IBM’s latest set of solutions allow clients to help predict customer behavior and outcomes with speed and ease, all delivered from the cloud.”
The most notable addition to Big Blue’s lineup is SmartCloud Analytics Predictive Insights, a software-as-a-service product that utilizes “cognitive computing” capabilities to rapidly shift through large volumes of machine data. The platform made its debut alongside a cloud-based version of BLU Acceleration, an in-memory processing engine that competes with SAP HANA and Oracle Database 12c.
IBM’s latest cloud services are complemented by InfoSphere Data Explorer, a search tool that lets users distinguish different types of data and visualize information silos across on- and off-premise environments. The software is joined by InfoSphere Data Privacy for Hadoop, a monitoring solution that anonymizes data to prevent unauthorized access. It works with HDFS as well as relational and nonrelational systems.
Besides introducing new solutions, Big Blue also upgraded its SVC storage virtualization software with machine learning capabilities and added archiving tools to PureData System for Hadoop. The appliance was unveiled in conjunction with a scaled-down configuration of IBM PureData System for Transactions and an Information Governance Dashboard that displays consumer confidence levels.
