Dell launches new portfolio of enterprise services for Salesforce
Michael Dell is beefing up his namesake firm’s consultancy lineup as part of an ambitious plan to reduce the vendor’s dependence on the sale of personal computers and establish a foothold in the lucrative enterprise cloud market. Now, a month after introducing a set of specialized services for companies in regulated industries, Dell is jumping on the Salesforce application bandwagon.
In November, the cloud CRM juggernaut unveiled a platform-as-a-service offering pegged by CEO Mark Benioff as a tightly integrated stack for running data-driven apps plugged into the Internet of Things. The number of mobile users supported by Salesforce1 increased by a massive 96 percent within 30 days of launching, according to official figures published on Wednesday, with partner- and customer-developed applications gaining 46 percent in the same period. That represents an important milestone for Salesforce, and apparently a must-seize opportunity for Dell.
The newly private hardware maker has begun offering application development and migration services to companies that are interested in moving to the platform but lack the in-house resources to pull off the transition on their own. Dell is aiming to become a “single point of contact for design, delivery and ongoing application management” for Salesforce1 with the new consultancy offerings, which round out its existing portfolio of cloud assessment and design services.
“This collaboration helps Dell customers develop new applications using the cloud, on the platform that works best for their business,” noted Raman Sapra, the global head of Strategy and Business Innovation Services at Dell. “Customers will benefit not only from our strong Salesforce advisory services but also from Dell’s own successful implementation of the Salesforce Platform. Offering customers this type of choice and flexibility is at the heart of Dell’s overarching Cloud strategy.”
