Attunity Ltd. is using the Strata Conference + Hadoop World 2014 in New York this week to pull the curtains back on a new release of its core replication software that promises to make it easier than ever to pull legacy data into the batch analytics platform. Data migration is shaping up to be a major theme at the event, with other emerging vendors such as Altiscale Inc. and Dataguise Inc. also opening up their respective offerings to broader audiences in the run-up to the conference.

Attunity is seeking to level the playing field against rival and one-time partner Syncsort Inc., which is touting a similar value proposition for streamlining migrations from traditional data sources into the batch analytics framework. As Syncsort co-founder Harvey Tessler noted in a recent interview on theCUBE, the 46-year-old firm also has the ear of more than half of the IBM zOS mainframe user base, which gives it a foot in the door of many of the world’s top financial institutions and retailers.

But Attunity is not so easily deterred. The new release of its Replicate 4.0 software takes aim at those very organizations with a set of improvements that match the Syncsort proposition on several important counts. The main highlight is a a drag-and-drop interface that allows users to set up migration paths without any coding, which is similar to what Splunk Inc. introduced with the latest release of its own flagship platform last week.

Besides simplifying migration, Replicate 4.0 also offers users more options in how they go about the process. The software now provides the choice of pulling datasets into Hadoop at once or incrementally with automatic tracking of changes, appending new information to an existing workload and reloading sources. Last but not least, the new release has been certified for use with the leading Hadoop distributions from Cloudera Inc. and Hortonworks Inc., which should make it more marketable to CIOs.

Attunity is scheduled to showcase in booth 361 at Strata Conference + Hadoop World, not far from where SiliconANGLE’s theCUBE will be broadcasting live analysis and commentary from all the movers and shakers on the showroom floor.
