NFC + Bluetooth tracker + memory: Meet the Aviador wallet
The Internet of Things is slowly creeping its way through every aspect of our lives, so why not your wallet as well?
Meet the Aviador wallet from Aviador Co., a minimalist smart wallet with a number of interesting features.
The minimalist wallet trend has seen a push away from a standard sized wallet into more slender and sleek designs, an idea that combines decluttering your life with practical considerations such as weight and form factor.
What Aviador does is combine certain features you’d expect in a smart device and impressively puts them in a thin wallet.
Features include:
- a Bluetooth tracker, that works two ways; you can use your phone to find where you’ve put your wallet, or you can use your wallet to find where you’ve put your phone.
- Wallet open alert informs you when your wallet is being opened in cases where you part company with it.
- A built-in NFC chip is the niftiest feature, allowing you to pay for purchases, provide information and more. It also doubles as an electronic key as well, meaning you can forgo the need to carry one around if the security system is NFC compatible.
- The SOS function is activated by breaking one of the corners and can be used to track your wallet in case of a mugging.
- An 8gb flash card
The wallets are handmade from Herbert Kade leather and come in 12 different colors.
The pricing isn’t unreasonable either, with a full model currently available on presale at $145. A basic version that excludes the wallet open alert feature and flash memory is available for $75.
The wallet has raised $65,000 on Indiegogo after chasing an initial target of $1,000, with two days left until it closes the fund-raising campaign.
The Aviador wallet isn’t for everyone, but if you’re someone who likes to have everything connected one way or the other, you may well want one. If you’re someone who tends to misplace items such as your phone and/ or wallet, it could actually be a god send.
The first shipment is due April 2015.
