Withings releases Activité Pop, a cheaper version of their stylish activity tracker
Ahead of the Consumer Electronics Showcase that kicks off in Las Vegas tomorrow, Withings has announced the launch of the Withings Activité Pop, a cheaper version of its Swiss-made activity tracking Withings Activité watch.
Better known for its digital scales, Withings launched their first activity tracker in June; however, the Withings Activité carries a hefty price tag of $450. The Withings Activité Pop is intended to be more accessible and comes in at the much reduced price of $149.95.
Unlike its predecessor, the Activité Pop it is not Swiss-made high quality, but is rather produced in China from cheaper materials, hence the more appealing price tag.
A silicon strap has replaced the calf-leather strap found on the Withings Activité, but the Pop version still provides the same functionality as its Swiss made sibling. The latest edition tracks your activity levels during walking, running and swimming as well as sleep tracking and you can enjoy being woken up by a silent vibrating alarm.
The dial in the lower right-hand corner of the face is an analog feedback loop that keeps you up to date on the percentage of your goal achieved. It also interfaces with Withings’ Health Mate iOS app, so you always know how you are performing, including your sleep activity, which the app collects from the watch via Bluetooth. The device also integrates with Apple Inc.’s HealthKit platform and other fitness apps like MyFitnessPal.
Currently the device will only work with iOS, but will eventually work with Android.
You have a choice of three colors, which include Shark Grey, Bright Azure and Wild Sand. There are also a range of other strap colors to choose from for the more trendy folk.
No charging is required, with the battery lasting eight months. The device is also water-resistant up to 30 meters, so you can pretty much wear the fitness tracker all the time.
According to research conducted by Endeavour in January last year, a third of U.S. consumers who have owned a wearable stopped using it six months after receiving it. We will have to wait and see whether Withings have success with its latest offering.
