Borders Price Cut: Kobo, Aluratek e-Book Readers
Great news for e-reader users, it’s another price cut. This time it’s Borders that has come forward with a price lowering initiative. They have announced to reduce prices of e-book readers Kobo and AluraTek. The price cuts are marginal compared to previous drops for other eBook readers, though this signifies the plauteuing around related pricing. A $20 reduction brings the cost of the Kobo to $129, while the Aluratek Libre is now priced at $99.99. The price cuts are set to take effect September 1.
These versions do not have direct download options via Wi-Fi, as the other competitor products in this field. However, it is expected that the new Velocity Cruz tablets from Borders would incorporate this feature. There seems to be a lot of positive news coming from the e-reader industry. Just last week, Amazon announced a great response in terms of sale for their latest Kindle 3 e-reader.
The price cuts, across the board, are indicative of the trends towards mobile devices and industry shifts The Apple iPad has of course been a major influence in the space, bringing an inclusive device that competes agains all other e-book readers on the market. This isn’t the first time Borders has had to react to the evolving space.
