Smart air vent keeps every room cozy
This week’s Smart Living roundup features a new smart air vent, a shower system that recycles water and a smart scooter that doesn’t need to be charged.
Ecovent smart temperature system
Ecovent – the smart air vent
Having a smart thermostat is great, until you realize that everyone in the house likes different temperature settings. When you need to provide a more comfortable living space for your family, check out the Ecovent, a smart air vent that makes sure each room gets the perfect temperature for each inhabitant.
Ecovent works with your existing system by replacing floor, wall or ceiling vents. The vents are battery-powered and open and close automatically to send conditioned air where it is needed. The system uses smart sensors so you’ll know the temperature of each room, as well as which room has occupants. You can control the temperature in each room by using the mobile app. This system promises household savings up to 30 percent by not heating or cooling empty rooms.

Shower of the Future
The Shower of the Future promises clean recycled water for showering. Available in two models; a Floor-integrated option and Cabin style, which has special drains fitted with two types of purification capsules: a micro capsule that filters skin flakes, hair, sand and other larger particles. It also comes with a nano capsule to filter viruses and bacteria, as well as 99.9 percent of potential endotoxins, metals and emulsified oils, promising cleaner water than most conventional tap water systems.
The Shower of the Future starts by filling up the system with five liters of water, which is then filtered and reused for as long as you want to stay in the shower. Worried about running out of hot water? The system comes with its own heating system. You’ll know when it’s time change the filters, as an LED light in the drain will glow or you will be notified via the smartphone app. The micro capsule lasts between 10,000 and 30,000 liters and costs $25, while the nano capsule lasts between 50,000 to 100,000 liters and costs $100.
The Floor integrated model sells for $4,000 while the Cabin model sells for $5,000.

Gogoro Smartscooter
The Gogoro Smartscooter is an electric vehicle that is fitted with 55 sensors that work seamlessly together, has 24-hours mobile connectivity so you can check on your scooter anytime you wish, and provides real-time diagnostics because it is connected to the cloud.
Though it is an electric scooter, owners of the Gogoro Smartscooter won’t have to worry about finding charging stations as this doesn’t need to be charged — all you have to do is swap its battery. The Gogoro App is constantly synced to your scooter so you’ll know if you need a change of battery soon, reserve a batter and find the nearest place to get your fully charged battery. The challenge here will be to build a large enough ecosystem of battery stations to support customer needs.
The Gogoro Smartscooter is slated for a 2015 rollout.
