What’s the deal with the lightning bolt on the next Samsung Galaxy teaser?
Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. has released a teaser video for its upcoming Galaxy device. The video did not reveal what the device will be called or what features it will have, but the theme of the video is “fast.”
What do I mean by fast? Well, the video talks about how doing things fast can give people more time to do the important things in life. But what’s intriguing is the lightning bolt symbol that appears in the ad. What does this lightning bolt mean? Samsung may be hinting at a feature of the new Galaxy that’s so fast it will leave people astounded.
So what could this lightning-fast feature be?
Fast wireless charging
Samsung engineer Seho Park recently posted on the company’s official blog about wireless charging, its history, who are the top contenders in the market and how the company is involved in the technology. Some took the post as a hint that the next Galaxy flagship smartphone will have a wireless charging feature.
Wireless charging is not something new on mobile devices, but what could make a difference is how long it takes to wirelessly charge the phone. Samsung may have cracked the secret in faster wireless charging for the next Galaxy S6.
Exynos 7
If you look at the lightning bolt symbol, it looks like two number 7’s stacked up on top of each other. Some say that the lightning bolt is a nod to the company’s Exynos 7 processor, which the South Korean giant is said to be using for the Galaxy S6 instead of Qualcomm Technologies, Inc.’s Snapdragon 810. The Exynos 7 is a 64-bit Octa-Core CPU, which means it will allow the smartphone to perform tasks with lightning-fast speeds.
3-sided screen
Samsung is expected to reveal its next flagship device on March 1, a day ahead of the Mobile World Congress 2015. But instead of one flagship smartphone, there will be two: one that looks like a conventional smartphone and one with a three-sided screen. The three-sided screen is similar to the Note Edge, but instead of one curved screen, it will have two.
There’s a huge possibility that more functionality will be featured on the side screen in addition to getting quick information when needed. This could be what the lightning bolt stands for — a faster way of launching apps or doing things on the phone.
