Apple Watch is selling out fast, shipping dates extended up to 6 weeks
Pre-orders for the Apple Watch started at 12:01 a.m. PDT Friday, April 10. Shipping is set to start April 24; however, certain versions sold out quickly and consumers will have to wait up to six weeks or longer before they will be able to have their Apple Watch on their wrist.
The shipping date for the Apple Watch Sport moved to the middle of next month, 10 minutes after pre-orders started at midnight, and now has a revised date of June.
The wait for the top-of-the-range Apple Edition will be even longer, with the rose gold models showing a revised shipping date of July; however, the yellow gold models will be available in June, according to Apple Inc.’s site.
With the start of pre-orders, consumers also now have the opportunity to sign up for an appointment to try on an Apple Watch. Locations include Apple Stores, as well as specialized boutiques around the world, like Dover Street Market in London and Tokyo, The Corner in Berlin, Maxfield in Los Angeles, and certain Apple Authorized Resellers in China and Japan.
As with the pre-orders, the try-on appointment bookings have also been in high demand. Such high demand in fact that the booking system went down at approximately 1:05 a.m.
There have been various predictions regarding the amount of smart watches that Apple will sell. Research firm Strategy Analytics predicts Apple will sell more than 15 million worldwide in 2015. While Katy Huberty, a analyst, makes an even higher projection, estimating that it will sell 30 million watches. As with iPhone pre-orders, Apple is likely to announce on Monday their pre-order Apple Watch sales numbers for the first weekend. Next week will reveal just how much of the smart watch market they have captured in the first weekend.
Today also saw the new 12-inch MacBook open for pre-order; however, as supplies for the MacBook are less constrained you will be able to receive shipment in one to three business days.
