Clearwire’s Limited 4G in the Big Apple and L.A.
Alternately functioning in New York City, Clearwire is now kicking up its 4G WiMax expansion as they announced the commencement of their “operational readiness activities.” The limited 4G network will also expand to some of the major cities in the United States, like Los Angeles and San Francisco, as well as other select areas.
At the moment, it covers 52 major cities across US, and still faces a dramatic gap in the number of users in different locations. Some of the most populated areas are New York, California and Florida.
Clearwire did not disclose any particulars as to the release dates for the 4G expansion, other than they will be delivered in full by the end of the year. The company only promised to carry out recurrent 4G services to major cities where much of the final work is complete. These places include Tampa, Miami, Orlando, Nashville, Denver, Minneapolis, Cincinnati, Cleveland, and Pittsburgh.
That’s good news for 4G devices like HTC Evo 4G and Samsung Epic 4G from Sprint, Clearwire’s carrier partner. Sprint is eagerly pushing for 4G network expansion, even through a series of enterprise partnerships, such as the recently announced deal with Grid Net. Sprint will also be one of several wireless providers to get the GalaxyTab.
