Big day for cloud comms company Twilio as it announces eight new products

Cloud communications company Twilio Inc. raised the bar today in the software as a service (SaaS) comms space by announcing not one, but eight new products.

Twilio offers an API that enables developers to deploy voice, VoIP and SMS apps via simple code, with the new offerings built on top of this.

Top of the list is Twilio IP messaging, a service that enables in-app chat between multiple parties across Web and mobile applications. Among other features is message synchronization, that is said to allow users to instantly access chat history and engage in conversations from different devices, such as a mobile, tablet or laptop.

Support features include a typing indicator, message read status, topic search and mobile push notifications, enabling the third party service and app providers the ability to easily add chat to their existing or future apps.

Twilio’s new “messaging copilot” is said to add advanced delivery and localization intelligence to SMS and MMS applications. The service allows customers to reach a larger audience by dynamically sending SMS using multiple Twilio Phone Numbers and shortcodes, sending messages across the globe with a local number that is familiar to the recipient.

Localization features include the ability to send messages globally using a local number that is familiar to the recipient, along with intelligent rerouting of messages through different phone numbers when delivery via short codes is not available.

Twilio’s new advanced monitoring features provide visibility into every operational detail of Twilio accounts including Twilio Voice, Video and Messaging applications, and delivers devs the tools to actively prevent security holes, audit for compliance and investigate application issues caused by human error and application behavior.

Improved global visibility

Twilio’s global expansion aims have been given a boost with three new tools and additions that improve its ability to operate in different markets.

Their new Global Conference feature delivers audio conference calling with up to 250 mobile, landline or VoIP participants in each conference, complete with global optimization to reduce latency issues.

The conference calls of more than 250 people, Twilio now offers “Epic Conference,” which as the name may suggest is geared for a listening crowd of many.

In terms of localization Twilio has now added mobile number and alphanumeric sender ID support for Chile, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Hungary, and Israel, bring local country support to nearly 50 countries.

2FA improvements

Authy, the two-factor authentication startup Twilio acquired in February doesn’t miss out, with Authy OneTouch, a new feature that streamlines 2FA for users by making it a simple “yes” or “no” approval of a push notification initiated request on an authorized mobile device. Authy is now also for the first time available to provide 2Fa for Apple Watch apps.

it’s been a busy year for Twilio, let alone it being recently joining the Unicorn club when it raised a $100 million Series E round earlier this month.

As we’ve said before: this a clever startup providing a solid SaaS-based service that isn’t short on fans, let alone some of its clients which include Uber Inc., AirBnB Inc., OpenTable Inc., Box Inc., Home Depot Inc., eHarmony Inc., The Coca-Cola Company, and many others.
