Microsoft releases updated Spotify-esque Music App for Windows 10

As part of the Windows 10 Technical Preview Microsoft has unveiled a new preview of its music app, and we’re not the first to say, it looks not unlike the Swedish music streaming service, Spotify. The screenshot, which showed up on an Xbox support page, shows a much darker theme than the previous preview version of the music app.

From what we can see in the screenshot on the left side of the screen there will be lists of artists and albums, as well as playlists created by the user. On the right side there will be a list of recent songs played and also suggested playlists.

Microsoft notes that to find the updated version users will have to search for ‘Music Preview’ in the Store, and if you have the standard Music app installed you can also continue using that. A few issues however have been pointed out, including no support for purchases in the Store or, for Music Pass holders, browsing the catalog, or playing radio. To buy or stream music Microsoft asks people to use the standard Music app. You also won’t be able to shuffle ‘Now Playing’ queue of songs, albums and playlists.

You will be able to play a plethora of songs from the Xbox Music catalog, tunes you’ve ripped from CD and stuff you’ve taken from iTunes and similar services. All of which can be uploaded to OneDrive and played on computers running Windows 8.1 and Windows 10, Xbox and Windows Phone.
