Twitter Free Analytics and Third Party Influencers
The new Twitter website may not have come with multiple account support, but the microblogging network will soon offer free analytics for users. This is a step in the right direction for Twitter, as its data has been used for mining by third parties for quite some time. There is the thought that Twitter’s offering of this data in a more direct sense will depreciate their own offerings, but I think Twitter’s massive enough to support a wealth of specifics in the analytics department.
The upcoming features were announced at the Sports Marketing 2.0 Summit this week, indicating an early focus on niche sectors that utilize Twitter for advertising purposes. It’s likely that Twitter will begin with beta testing, and roll out analytics to a wider user base over time.
Twitter recently updated its Promoted Tweets to make them more personal, improving targeting options around the marketing tool. With ongoing tweaks around advertising options and methodology related to Twitter, the network will only become more powerful in its influence, reaching into the territory of a number of other services, from Facebook to Foursquare.
However, third party tools are not slowing down on their offerings, just because Twitter is continuing to fill in its own gaps. Seesmic, which launched a desktop client for social networking a couple of weeks ago, has also added some easy tracking features for managing your multiple accounts to its web tool. Seesmic Web has also incorporated auto-link shortening in an effort to stay ahead of the Twitter curve.
