Sony’s new Xperia M5 and C5 Ultra are mega-selfie cameras first, smartphones second
Sony Mobile Communications Inc.’s latest additions to the smartphone market include the Xperia C5 Ultra and the Xperia M5. Launched on Monday, both phones come with a hefty 13-megapixel front-facing camera, the perfect feature for the selfie-obsessed user. (via CNET)
From Tony McNulty, vice president for value category business management at Sony: “We understand that camera capabilities are important to smartphone users, so we ensured that Sony’s existing camera brilliance was once again surpassed in the new Xperia C5 Ultra and Xperia M5 without compromising on other features across design and performance.”
In addition to the 13-megapixel front-facing camera, the Xperia M5 also comes with a 21.5-megapixel rear-facing camera and 5x Clear Image Zoom allowing you to take photos like a pro. You can then view these photos on the 5-inch full HD display.
Like Sony’s flagships before it, the Xperia M5 is dust and water resistant, allowing you to rinse your smartphone under a tap if it gets dirty and avoid being concerned if water splashes on your phone. The M5 has a “sleek premium glass finish on both sides”, but to protect against bumps it comes equipped with stainless steel corners. The Xperia M5 is powered by a 64-bit 2.0GHz Octa-core processor, and 3GB of RAM.
The more moderately spec’d Xperia C5 Ultra matches its 13-megapixel front-facing camera with a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera and includes a near borderless 6-inch full HD display. Sony have dubbed the Xperia C5 Ultra the “PROselfie”. To ensure the best selfies, the Xperia C5 Ultra also comes equipped with a 22mm wide-angle lens, allowing you to fit more people in the frame, as well as a Selfie Flash.
The C5 Ultra has an aluminum frame and comes in a choice of three colors – black, white or “glossy soft mint” and is powered by a 1.7 GHz 64-bit Octa-core processor with a 2GB of RAM.
Both the Xperia C5 Ultra and the Xperia M5 will go on sale in selected countries from mid-August. Unfortunately, there has been no announcement on what we can expect to pay for Sony’s mega-selfie smartphones.
