Systems of Intelligence #BigData CrowdChat – Join the Conversation

John Furrier theCUBE Hadoop Summit 2014George Gilbert, John Furrier, and the Wikibon team will be hosting an interactive, Q&A style, CrowdChat tomorrow, centered around George Gilbert’s recent Big Data research:

Time: Tuesday, 8/4 @ 1:00pm EST (for one hour)
The conversation will be held through CrowdChat, a new social networking service that lets businesses and individuals set up ad-hoc real-time group conversation about topics based on hashtags. George will talk about his findings, and you will be able to pose questions to him and other guests in the Big Data community.
We will specifically cover the following issues:

1. How to build on existing Systems of Record – first by adding the ability to anticipate and influence end-user interactions in real-time for better outcomes – then by taking action automatically.
  • Enterprises have to bring together data silo’d in operational systems and external sources for increasingly sophisticated analytics.
  • They also have to move this data through an analytic pipeline ever closer to real-time.

2. How to choose the appropriate technology platforms (Hadoop, Spark, proprietary cloud) for this journey depending on internal installed base and available development and administrative skills. Customers must understand that Hadoop isn’t a product. It is an ecosystem. That adds complexity.

  • Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform support Hadoop, but they also offer increasingly sophisticated and simplified alternatives.
  • Spark could be a spoiler: it aspires to offer not just a converged infrastructure for administrators, but a converged application environment for both batch and real-time analytics.

3. Which vendors are currently in the best position to help customers on this journey.

  • Infrastructure: AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, and Databricks as potential spoiler.
  • Applications: IBM and other solution providers that are trusted advisers to CXO executives and able to offer highly custom vertical applications.

So please attend the CrowdChat and join the conversation. We hope you enjoy. Thanks for checking out this exciting new platform
