Iranian Bloggers To Be Banned By Blue Host
While it is quite disturbing to see freedom of speech being barred once again online, heard about this via this tweet, it is also just as disturbing to see the TOS once again at the forefront of this news.
The main question I have here is why did Blue Host even allow the Iranian bloggers to sign up? Now they want to pull the Article 13 clause of their TOS out to ban Iranian bloggers?
TOS stands for Terms Of Service. It is not the Terms Of Whatever. Or even Terms Of We’ll put it to a Vote and Tribal council hearing in due time. It’s not a democracy nor is it meant to be fair. The original point of a terms of service is to protect both the company providing the service as well as the customer partaking in that service. Simple.
My thought is that maybe Blue Host needs to have a pow-wow with sugar cube oriented Facebook. They may as well change Article 13 of their TOS and state, "Everyone except those pro-freedom bloggers from Iran!"
If they would have disallowed the Iranian sites from the get go, it would have been much better than now having to either pull these bloggers offline or having to change their TOS to be more friendly. Might as well change the name while you are at it, just call it the Terms Of Whatever.
I’ll be interested in seeing the official Blue Host response and how they handle this situation.
