Loop your memories with Instagram’s Boomerang app
If you are someone who loves watching a one-second video on a loop over and over again until you get sick of it, then you will be pleased to know that Instagram has launched a new app, called Boomerang, just for you. You no longer just have to be a viewer of these short videos, but you and your friends can also be a part of them.
Boomerang, launched on Thursday, is similar to a GIF looping a set of photos into a never-ending one-second long video. Boomerang marks the third stand-alone app that the Facebook Inc.-owned Instagram has launched. It joins the likes of Hyperlapse, which allows you to shoot time-lapse videos and was one of the top iPhone apps last year. The other stand-alone app is Layout, which allows you to create a collage of your favorite photos in your camera roll.
How to start creating those hilarious GIF’s
First up, find the perfect subject for your mini video GIF. This could be your dog chasing a ball, your friend jumping into the pool, the list is endless. As long as it involves some movement, you have found your subject.
You can choose to shoot in portrait or landscape, but the hard part is now over for you. The next step is simply pushing the button in the Boomerang app, and it will work its magic. Once you press the button, the app will take a burst of 10 photos, which it then automatically places together to provide you with a one-second video of entertainment.
Once the video is complete, you can quickly share it to Instagram, Facebook and other social networks for everyone’s viewing pleasure. At the same time, the Boomerang app saves it to your camera roll, so you can relive the moment over and over again.

Boomerang joins a series of other similar apps
While a cool way to capture your moments with friends, Boomerang isn’t a unique app. Apple’s Live Photos, which received an update with iOS 9.1, is similar to Boomerang, but it allows you to capture audio as well, something that is lacking in the Boomerang app. Another similar app is Phhhoto, which started out as an iPad-powered app, and grew to 1 million users by March 2015. They recently launched an Android version of their app.
Despite its similarities to other apps, Boomerang is bound to add plenty of fun to your memories.
Boomerang is available now on both iOS and Android.
