Golden State Warriors represent Oracle resurrection | #oow15

“The fan experience is the customer experience,” said theCUBE’s John Furrier, discussing the Oracle Keynote at Oracle OpenWorld 2015 at the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco, CA. Representing theCUBE, from theSiliconANGLE Media team, were Furrier and Wikibon analyst Brian Gracely.

Footage of the Golden State Warriors was one of the highlights of the morning speech, with Furrier seeing them as an example of the core IT problem of managing your employees (team), and your fan (customer) experience. In addition, the Warriors are an example of a company in turmoil that has turned around, underlining the resurrection of Oracle as a player in the cloud market, according to Gracely.

The new Oracle

In the past five years, Oracle has “romped all the way down to the cloud,” said Furrier, who talked about how Oracle is modernizing while staying with its core base. Gracely agreed that Oracle has taken old processes and modernized them, making work better in the cloud.

Asking the question: ‘What is Oracle’s strategy?’ Furrier answered that it is clearly offensive, with the company cannibalizing its own offerings to bring customers into the cloud. “Oracle is standing tall. All cloud, cloud, cloud …” said Furrier.
