Does Nimble’s ground-up innovation give it an edge over legacy vendors? | #oow15
Last December, CRN Magazine named San Jose-based company Nimble, “Storage Vendor of the Year.” Radhika Krishnan, VP of Solutions & Alliances for Nimble Storage, Inc., explained today on theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, that the company’s relative youth is actually a reason for its success.
Established older vendors have been limited in their utilization of flash, because they’ve had to build on existing architecture and are burdened by the legacy products that they have to protect. Nimble has been able to innovate from the architecture level up. “So therefore, we have been able to deliver a lot more value to our customers — on average about five times better price performance,” Krishnan said.
Flash is disrupting the storage industry, and Nimble is at the forefront — another factor responsible for the company’s rapid growth, Krishnan believes. “Flash has dramatically changed the way customers are able to consume storage,” she said.
Next up for Nimble: Cloud and analytics
“Analytics is the next frontier we are going after,” Krishnan explained when asked about the company’s current ambitions. She also cited transferring data to the cloud as a major concern for Nimble and its clients, and she spoke about differing attitudes toward risk. Customers in America and Australia, she explained, are most willing to move to the cloud, while people in other parts of the world remain somewhat reluctant.
