Warner Bros’ play to appease Arkham Knight PC players is to give them games they probably already own
Gamers who purchased the PC version of Batman: Arkham Knight have been waiting for over four months for the extremely buggy game to be fixed and re-released, and today that wait is finally over. Some angry Arkham fans have been demanding that publisher Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment offer some kind of bonus or freebie as an apology for releasing a broken game, and while Warner Bros has announced a free reward for PC gamers, it is not exactly what most people had been hoping for.
Many players had been asking for a free or heavily discounted season pass to get access to Arkham Knight’s downloadable content (DLC), which is currently selling for $39.99, only $10 less than the base game. This move would not be unheard of, as Ubisoft Entertainment SA previously offered free DLC to Assassin’s Creed fans as an apology for the many issues that plagued Assassin’s Creed Unity.
“We are genuinely thankful to the Batman: Arkham fans, the Steam Batman: Arkham Community, and the PC Players who have patiently waited for this day,” Warner Bros said in an update on the Arkham Knight Steam Community page. “As a show of our appreciation to our fans in this process, we are pleased to announce three community focused programs to help us commemorate the re-launch of the game.”
For the first of these three programs, none of which involve the season pass, Warner Bros has announced that anyone who purchases Batman: Arkham Knight on the PC before November 16 will also receive all previous Arkham games for free—great news for the gamers who decided to purchase the fourth game in a series without ever having owned any of the previous games.
The second program will allow PC gamers to play the free “Community Challenge Pack” DLC a week before console players.
The final program is the old Valve Software stand-by: Team Fortress 2 hats. Yep, imaginary hats for an entirely separate game series.
Notably absent from this list is any sort of reward for players who pre-ordered the game, as all of the above freebies are available to anyone who purchases the game before November 16. If this is not proof that pre-ordering is almost always a bad idea, then nothing is.
