New Hearthstone ‘League of Explorers’ adventure arriving in one week | #BlizzCon
It has been just over half a year since the release of the last Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft adventure, but developer Blizzard Entertainment has already revealed at BlizzCon that the game’s next adventure, League of Explorers, will be arriving on November 12, less than a week away.
Adventures are themed expansions for Hearthstone that add a number of new cards and mechanics to the game, which players can unlock by completing challenging battles against special computer-controlled opponents. They consist of a number of “wings” which become progressively unlocked each week. Players can either purchase each wing for in-game currency, which they earn through various means while playing the game, or they can buy the entire adventure at once for real money.
So far, Blizzard has released only two adventures for Hearthstone: Curse of Naxxramas and Blackrock Mountain. The new adventure will be quite different from previous ones as it will be the first to not be based on a classic World of Warcraft raid. Instead, it will feature the eponymous League of Explorers, a team of adventuring archeologists led by Brann Bronzebeard, an important character who is well known to Warcraft fans. The adventure follows the League as they search for the pieces of a powerful artifact called the Staff of Origination.
League of Explorers will also introduce three new characters to the game: Reno Jackson, Elise Starseeker, and “gentleman Murloc adventurer” Sir Finley Mrrgglton. He has a monocle.
The adventure will add several new card mechanics, including the new Discover ability, which allows a player to draw choose one of three random cards to keep. Details about individual cards are sparse for now, but Blizzard did reveal the effects of the Elise Starseeker card, which shuffles a card called “Map to the Golden Monkey” into the player’s deck. After drawing the map, the Golden Monkey card is then shuffled into their deck, and once that card is played, the player’s entire deck and hand are replaced with legendary cards.
Blizzard announced that the first wing of League of Explorers will be open next Thursday, November 12, and the remaining wings will unlock over the following weeks.
