From floppy disk to platform: Quickbooks becomes developer friendly | #QBConnect

Intuit, Inc.’s QuickBooks is no longer just an application. “We are converting as a company to be more technology orientated,” said Avi Golan, VP of the Intuit Developer Group.

Golan spoke to Jeff Frick, cohost of theCUBE, from theSiliconANGLE Media team, during the recent QuickBooks Connect event in San Francisco.

Transformation into a platform

For a long time Intuit was application focused, but now the focus has shifted to designing for scale. Golan explained that this is to allow the company to aim for the global market of 600 million small business customers.

“An application can’t reach that audience,” Golan explained. “The one thing you need to do is to change your technology. It’s a mind shift, basically.”

QuickBooks welcomes developers

This mind shift includes opening QuickBooks to allow third-party developers to take advantage of the technology and adapt it for use in smaller market situations.

“We’re going to focus on personalization. We’re going to focus on opening the platform even more … so people can really leverage the entire capability of what QuickBooks can offer,” said Golan.
