Sony Launch of Google TV Device: Go Blu-ray!

Sony has officially announced their range of Google TV products. This includes 4 HDTV’s and the Google TV Blu-ray player. These products are priced in the range $399.99 to $1,399.99. You can give your pre-order at Sony’s official website. Here are some details from PCmag:

Google TV uses the true Chrome Web browser with Flash 10.1 so most Web sites viewed on the Sony Internet TV’s were accessible and looked just like they would on your home PC. There are currently only a handful of Google TV apps available (Netflix, Twitter, and Pandora to name a few) but Sony said the OS will be updated in early 2011 to include the Android Market app with more options.

The OS can also display TV from a cable box, and supports Google searches while watching TV, Web browsing, and TV displays in a PIP box on the corner of the screen. The HDTVs and Blu-ray player both capture digital video and audio from cable boxes via HDMI and control them via IR (unless it is a receiver from Dish Network, which can also be control via HDMI.)

Google TV has been the talk of the town. The project got us all excited when it was first announced in early May. Who doesn’t want to watch TV and also browse the internet on the high quality screens of an HDTV. This was made possible by Google’s android OS Google TV. The announcement of the project was promptly followed by news of compatible devices. Logitech took the lead by launching Revue last week. And here we have Sony with their launch. Logitech’s device was received well by analysts and it is yet to be seen how Sony’s blu-ray makes it.
