Google app for iOS gets 3D Touch, iPad multitasking and festive season opening times

The latest update for the iOS version of the Google app brings two Apple-specific updates to the app in the form of 3D Touch support and iPad multitasking. The final update includes the incorporation of holiday opening hours for businesses as well as showing the time of day that said businesses have a spike in the number of customers visiting the establishment.

3D Touch comes to Google app for iOS

Although the list of third-party iOS apps that support 3D Touch on the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus is still limited, it is growing. The Google app for iOS is the latest to add support for 3D Touch, joining Tumblr which added support for the new feature last week.

Using 3D Touch in the Google app, iPhone 6s and 6s Plus can access shortcut menus to Google’s text, voice or images searched using a hard press.

Google app adds support for iPad multitasking features

The inclusion of multitasking support allows iPad users to make use of the new features from Apple, including Split View and Slide Over. iPad users can now use the Google app side-by-side with a variety of other apps on the same screen.

Google app for iOSKnow a business’s opening hours during the festive season

As the festive season approaches, opening hours for businesses tend to get more unpredictable. Last week, Google announced that it was adding holiday hours to both its Map and Search apps. This update is now coming across for iOS users, so if a major holiday is approaching the search results will show if the opening hours for a specific business differs on this day. Holidays are localized to each region.

In addition, it will also show when the busiest hours are for a specific business, ensuring you can avoid those places when they have spikes in customers and save time during your holiday shopping.

You can download the latest iOS version of the Google app (version 11.0) on the App Store now.
