Pinterest updates Buyable Pins with price drop notifications

Pinterest Inc. has announced a new notification system that will alert you when the price drops on a Buyable Pin that you follow, this could be a good or a bad thing depending on how much you like to shop. Once a brand reduces the listed price on a pin that you follow, you will receive both an in-app notification and an email notification. You can jump straight to that Pin and can benefit from the savings when you buy said item.

“I don’t think it’s a unique psychology to Pinterest, but we tried to build a shopping experience that worked for that customer experience — discovering a product, waiting for the right moment, and then completing the purchase in a seamless way,” said Pinterest product marketing manager Sarah Shere. “In this case, one of those right moments is waiting for the price to drop.”

Pinterest entered the e-commerce market back in June when they launched Buyable Pins that allows users to buy items directly from social sharing site. If you want the item, you can simply hit the Buy It button, and use Apple Pay or your credit card to pay.

According to Pinterest, more than 10,000 brands are using Buyable Pins on Pinterest, including Macy’s Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Cole Haan and Tory Burch, but according to Re/code some retailers have been disappointed with daily sales figures. Perhaps the addition of receiving notifications when an item’s price drops will encourage more Pinterest users to start buying items.

To start receiving notifications of price drops on Buyable Pins make sure that you have the latest version of the Pinterest app on iOS or Android.
