What we can expect from the auto tech world at CES 2016 | #CES2016
The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) starts next week and with it comes the launch of exciting technology and innovation that will set us up for 2016. Running from January 6 to January 9, CES 2016 will be host to at least nine major automakers and over 100 auto tech firms. Companies due to unveil new car concepts include BMW, Audi, Ford and more.
Here is a snapshot of some of the rumors of what we can expect from the auto tech world next week.
Ford
The rumors have been making the rounds that the Ford Motor Co. is teaming up with Google to create a self-driving vehicle. The rumors come just after Ford received approval to test its self-driving cars in California and Google’s news that its self-driving car unit would become a standalone business under Alphabet Inc.
Sources close to the matter say that Ford and Google will announce details about the partnership at CES 2016.
General Motors
General Motors Company is set to reveal the production model of the Chevy Bolt. Between charges, the all-electric Chevy Bolt will be able to travel 200 miles.
BMW
At CES 2016, BMW AG will be showcasing its advanced version of gesture control called AirTouch. Using sensors in the interior of the car, AirTouch “allows the display in a vehicle to be operated like a touchscreen without actually having to make contact with the surface.” Using your outstretched hand, you will be able choose items on the display and then the driver can select them using a button on the steering wheel or a passenger can use a button on the door.
Rumors also have the BMW i8 Spyder making an appearance at this year’s CES and it is possible that the i8 Spyder will demo the AirTouch technology.
Kia
Kia Motors Corporation will reveal its vision for “fully autonomous vehicles” at its press conference scheduled for Tuesday, January 5 at 4 pm PT.
Audi
Officially, Audi AG has said that we can expect “an outlook on the automotive future, which will be influenced more than ever by the electronics field.” However, Autocar thinks the company will preview the next-generation A8 at the event.
Faraday Future
Rumors abound that Californian start-up Faraday Future, rumored to be the front for the Apple Car development efforts, will reveal its take on the electric car at CES 2016. The car will be able to travel 300 miles on a single charge.
