What’s new with Apple TV beta 9.2? More iPhone-like features

Apple TV owners may be excited with the release of the VLC media player app for the device, but there are more things to look forward to as the Cupertino giant released the beta version of tvOS 9.2 to developers.

The new version of the tvOS is lined with new features designed to make consuming media much easier.

New tvOS features

Currently, searching on your Apple TV using the companion remote is not easy, especially when you’re typing in a title. Good news is Apple TV now supports Bluetooth keyboards, which makes searching for shows, actors or apps easier. This feature was previously available in the older version of Apple TV, but the new version lacked the feature and will be brought back with this version.

Now, creating folders in Apple TV to organize apps uses a function with which iPhone users are already familiar. Just drag one app on top of another and release it to automatically create a folder containing the two apps. You can then name the new folder whatever you like.

The App Switcher has also been tweaked to make it similar to the App Switcher on iOS. It now looks like stacked cards making it easier to view which apps to switch to.

There’s also now a dedicated Podcast app for the Apple TV, which allows users to listen to podcasts on the big screen.

There’s now a Map Kit support for developers to add maps to their apps.

New language support has also been added to Siri. The personal assistant now support U.S. Spanish and French Canadian.

Apple tvOS 9.2 will ship to all fourth-gen Apple TVs later this year.
