Bitcoin firm Genesis Mining trolls JP Morgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon in advocacy campaign
Bitcoin mining firm Genesis Mining, Inc. has launched a new Bitcoin advocacy campaign in Miami with mobile billboards targeting JP Morgan Chase Chief Executive Officer Jamie Dimon.
Dimon famously said in a letter to shareholders in April last year that “Silicon Valley is coming” and that in terms of the development of the Blockchain “Bitcoin developers are coming to eat our lunch. And that’s fine. That’s called competition, and we’ll be competing”.
Genesis Mining Chief Executive Officer and Founder Marco Streng agrees with Dimon, writing on the company’s blog that:
Well, Mr. Dimon, you’re right. But it’s not just Silicon Valley. Technology is being developed in places like Boston, Israel, and Singapore that are threatening Wall Street’s grip on global finance. Leading that charge is Bitcoin and Blockchain. Big banks like JP Morgan have had a “monopoly on money” for far too long, and for the first time ever, that’s changing.
The big banks are woefully behind the innovation curve and are only just now beginning to realize it. Many have adopted an antagonist response to the disruptors in their industry, but it’s already too late. Because what they don’t realize is they can’t stop innovation. You just can’t stop hundreds of millions of consumers who are fed up with an archaic monetary system that is controlled by a handful of wealthy Wall Streeters.
Streng explained to SiliconANGLE that the mobile banners are part of an ongoing Bitcoin advocacy campaign they call #ExploreBitcoin, with a previous billboard campaign featuring Western Union being a big hit.
“As an industry, we need to practice “Guerrilla warfare” and our goal here is to get Bitcoin in front of as many new people while also motivating others in the industry to launch awareness campaigns,” he added.
Hallelujah
While there’s no question that Genesis Mining and Streng are having a bit of fun at Dimon’s expense with the latest campaign, it’s well-deserved fun, particularly given in November Dimon even went as far as to predict, as many others have before and after him, the death of Bitcoin but on the basis that “no government that is going to put up with it for long.”
The #ExploreBitcoin campaign is based on the sound idea of spreading the word about Bitcoin to more and more people, something the industry as a whole should be doing and to which Streng deserves ample praise.
If you’re looking for the mobile banners they are currently being driven around Miami during the annual North American Bitcoin conference.
