Mobile Health Tools See Big Growth: Pew Study
Mobile devices are becoming a notable source of information consumers from news to the latest deals. Another booming trend is the health sector.
According to a Pew study, 17% of the cellphone users use their mobile phones to access medical information. A good 9% of them has an application installed to track and manage their health, a pretty noticeable figure. Mobile devices are going to be very important portals for consumers, holding a lot of their health and financial data. No wonder Google has a lot of interest in this sector.
This study is based on data collected by Princeton Survey Research Associates International via telephone, with a total sample of 3,001 adults ages 18 and above, 1000 of which are via cellphone. The study ran from August 9 to September 13, 2010 . The languages used to conduct the survey are Spanish and English.
The findings are reflective of what’s taking place on a consumer level, and it’s being driven in part by what we’re seeing with the growth of mobile apps and cloud services. Google’s had a number of initiatives towards developing niche consumer services for the health industry, as have several other companies.
The finance and health industries are primary drivers in cloud computing, and this is one of the enablers in providing consumers with the data they demand. Mobile access is just one way we’re going to see this trend develop, with a lot more integrated services mvoing forward.
