AOL Faces the Loss of Key Editors
Since its beginning AOL’s focus was on a professional team. Among the 500 journalists of AOL nine of them were Pulitzer awarded and two Heisman Trophy winners. It is clear that AOL’s main strategy was to encroach highly skilled professionals.
However, it is announced that AOL lost four of its top editors: Mike Nizza, James Graff, James Burnett and Sam Gustin. They resigned from key positions such as AOL chief news editor, AOL’s enterprise editor, World editor and Daily Finance senior editor in charge for placements for News Corp, The Week, Rolling Stone, respectively Wired, reports Reuters.
Rumors are indicating that the situation escalated since AOL executives are concerned with casting about for a content strategy. For example, the management lays its focus on the $50 million project dedicated to hyperlocal Patch.
In a general questionable context, this week The Chicago Tribune’s CEO, Randy Michaels, stepped down. David Eun, president of media and studios at AOL reported that “We don’t believe the content on the Web will only be created within our walls, let’s be clear about that”, neglecting the fact that the present situation was an expected aftermath.
