OpenStack now Open for Windows Server

Microsoft  has partnered with Cloud.com and finally the OpenStack is open for Windows Server. This partnership has been done to provide Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper V support to the OpenStack project.image

This collaboration will provide benefit to both companies. While Cloud.com will develop the code to support OpenStack on Windows server, Microsoft will provide technical & architectural guidance for the same.

“Support for Windows Server Hyper-V on OpenStack reinforces Microsoft’s commitment to delivering choice and flexibility to customers in the cloud,” said Ted MacLean, general manager for the Open Solutions Group at Microsoft. “Giving customers the option to use Microsoft’s enterprise-ready virtualization platform, Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V, when they deploy OpenStack as their cloud solution is a win for all.”

OpenStack is already supported by around 35 software and hardware providers, but the support from the Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper- V will give better options to the IT customers. Moreover, it will allows the customers to run Windows and Linux-based infrastructure economically.

There’s plenty of developments going on in cloud computing this week, especially for open cloud initiatives.  OpenStack in fact launched a new product named Austin, and Microsoft competitor Google is getting deeper into the cloud game, with a precedenting partnership with VMware.
