Enterprise goal planning startup BetterWorks takes $20m Series B
Enterprise goal planning firm BetterWorks, Inc. has raised $20 million Series B in a round led by Emergence Capital that included Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, 8VC, AME Cloud Ventures, Bing Gordon, ff Venture Capital, John Doerr and Pejman Mar Ventures.
Founded in 2013, BetterWorks offers enterprise software to easily managing strategic plans, goals and performance conversations with a focus on helping high-performing companies run their business.
The company’s Business Operating System is built on Goal Science insights and operational research to help businesses execute more effectively.
BetterWorks has been well received by the market, and now has a client list of over 200 enterprise customers includes AOL, CVS Health, BMW, Schneider Electric, Airbnb and Shutterstock.
“In a tightened economy, maximizing your team’s collective capability is mission critical,” BetterWorks Chief Executive Officer Kris Duggan said in a statement. “Business leaders in today’s climate are asked to do more with less and our solution is poised to help companies align, coordinate resources and help their people to execute at the highest level, while enabling employees to find purpose and meaning at work.”
Agile Working
According to TechCrunch, BetterWorks is tapping into the concept of Agile Working, where employees write up their performance/business/work goals, then connect with colleagues to see if they are able to match or align them up, which is a fair assessment.
One of the better explanations on Agile Working comes from Consultancy Director John Eary, who explains the advantages:
Agile Working introduces a third dimension of flexibility, autonomy i.e. how people choose to work. In an organization adopting Agile Working employees are empowered to choose how they work they work in order to meet the goals set for them to the standards required. There may be some limitations on agile workers such working within their limits of authority or competence and observing legal and regulatory requirements but they are generally not overly dependent on formal processes and procedures.
The concept of Agile Working, sometimes described as Flexible Working, has been around for nearly a decade, but it has only more recently started to take off as more companies realize the benefits, particularly those who have a workforce in multiple locations, and this is the market BetterWorks is targeting.
Including the new funding BetterWorks has raised $35 million to date.
The company said it would use the money to further expand its business to meet the pressing need for a comprehensive business operating system for enterprise organizations.
