New Lucidworks tool lets companies create customized data libraries for their users

Although organizations usually build their analytics infrastructure with sophisticated business intelligence models in mind, not every interaction requires a complex query or mathematical formula. Workers often only need the ability to quickly fetch a certain record from their company’s data trove, which requires search functionality that can take a great deal of additional effort to set up. Lucidworks Inc. is moving to ease task today with the launch of a new tool that promises to reduce implementation times to just a few minutes.

View is described as an extension to the company’s flagship enterprise search system that makes it possible to create a custom data access portal for every major user group in an organization. A retailer, for instance, could make an interface to let executives navigate global sales records and then produce a scaled-down version geared towards regional managers who only require local data. Lucidworks says that a dashboard can incorporate information from more than 60 different sources including NoSQL stores, the open web and even the Slack collaboration service.

Once a portal is hooked up to the desired systems, administrators can tailor its feature set according to the requirements of the intended user base. View makes it possible to add a recommendation engine, personalize search results and even customize the format in which records are displayed. According to Lucidworks, the functionality extends the usefulness of the plug-in beyond internal use case to external-facing applications like self-service customer knowledge bases.

Rounding out the value proposition is an activity tracking feature that enables administrators to monitor how a user group interacts with its dashboard over time and adapt its layout accordingly. The source-code for View is available immediately on Lucidworks’ GitHub page under an Apache License.
