Sony Can’t Trust TVs, Hopefull for Mobiles of Tomorrow
Sony had a pretty good year overall, raising its full-year profit forecast by 17%. This is based on improved earnings, due to its growing games and PC businesses.
Sony’s net income for the year ending March 31 is expected to be around $868 million, which is considerably higher than last year’s projection. The company has cut its full-year sales forecast, however, citing Japan’s strengthened currency.
So games and computers, being a major part of Sony’s export business, is expected to continue to bring fortune on the massive manufacturer. Sony saw computer sales rise, while PS3 game console sales fell, though building costs for the PS3 saw an increase, and the gaming market is gaining a great deal of competition right now.
However, Sony’s already positioning itself for the mobile gaming era, with plans to improve its gaming sector through new features, products and partnerships. One suspected partnership is with Google’s Android platform, to introduce a Playstation game phone for mobile users. Sony’s already teamed up with Google for connected television sets, though Sony’s overall outlook on the TV business is dismal, especially in the U.S.
