Cursebird Is Realtime Twitter People Watching

cursebird1-log0Cursebird is the latest entry into the world of twitter apps. This latest twitter app lists real time curse words, and as the site says in it’s description ….

Cursebird is a real-time feed of people swearing on Twitter.

You can find some pretty funny items, such as the one I highlighed in this stream screenshot.

Here is an interesting twitter fight/spat/one night stand gone bad ….

…. followed with this response that triggered it showing up on Cursebird this morning …

… many of you will think that maybe we should do an anonymous blackout of the two people, but why? What you say on twitter is public, and another thought is – how much of this data do you think twitter already has stored?

One of the reasons I decided to post this about Cursebird is the fact of the whole business plan speculation that twitter has been saying they have, but won’t share. After I looked at this site, which I originally found this morning via this post here. It was also already reported here a few weeks back. I’m starting to figure out how they are going to make money.

I’ll give you a clue. Your clue on how they are going to make money. It’s a real winner idea, and if the recording industry still easily makes money with it, who’s to say that twitter can’t use the same principles and make a killing?

Think about it. All the parts are there. The VC’s are looking for a cash cow with a high user adoption rate. They are looking for something that will provide a consistent flow of money like an open water spigot. The music business has a high adoption rate of listeners. At one time, they controlled the water spigot. Right now twitter controls the water spigot with the same high and growing usage rate. They are the only game in town, your basic monopoly of the API. Understand now?

My only hope is that the founders of twitter have learned from the mistakes of music industry. This could be a windfall for them as well as the VC’s, and hopefully no one gets too greedy. There is plenty to go around, and getting greedy will only kill the huge potential at hand.

When will this all become apparent to the masses? That question I can’t answer, but at the rate of twitter push now, I’m guessing no later than Q4 of 2009. This of course is only a theory, and I could be wrong. Those are my guesses only, but I welcome any feedback as always.
