Microsoft Corp. has announced its Office 365 updates for January, which include multiple changes for OneDrive for Business, activity feed within the Office apps and integration of Office Lens and Android.

Here’s a look at the latest Office 365 updates:

OneDrive for Business

OneDrive for Business gets several new changes as part of the Office 365 update. Changes include advanced sharing permissions, a new OneDrive admin center, easier access to shared documents and a standalone Mac client.

Activity feed

Microsoft is bringing its activity feed, which it launched for Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents stored on SharePoint or OneDrive for Business in April, to documents stored on OneDrive.

The activity feed provides users with a full history of changes and users can easily revert to a previous version.

To view previous versions, open the relevant file > click the Activity button on the far right of the ribbon > the Activity pane will show the different versions. Click on a specific version to open it in a new window.

If you want to restore a version, open the relevant version > click “Restore” in the message bar.

Office Lens integration on Android

Office Lens, a pocket scanner that lets you capture documents, business cards and digitize notes from whiteboards, has now been integrated into Word and PowerPoint on Android.  

Directly within Word and PowerPoint, will be available for Excel in the future, users can capture, crop, straighten and enhance pictures of whiteboards and documents.

Microsoft is also working on Optical Character Recognition, which will allow captured handwritten text to be searchable.

Microsoft StaffHub

Earlier this month, Microsoft introduced StaffHub, an Office 365 app that lets managers and staff workers manage shift schedules.

Schedules on StaffHub are accessible on mobile and staff can also access documents, videos and send messages to other team members directly in the app. Microsoft plans to integrate StaffHub with Kronos Inc., a workforce management solution, in the future.

Office Insider for iOS

Microsoft has announced that iPhone and iPad users can now be part of the Office Insider program, allowing them to get early access to builds of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote at the Insider Fast level.

To join the Office Insider program for iPhone and iPad you can complete the survey on Microsoft’s site. The program currently has a limited capacity.
