1oT announces worldwide cellular self-service platform for IoT devices
Internet of Things connectivity platform provider 1oT announced today it will launch its self-service cellular solution for the Internet of Things at Mobile World Congress 2017 next week.
Built for small- and medium-sized startups, the 1oT Terminal platform is designed to allow scaling worldwide with connected devices and deploy using cellular networks with greater ease. Using partnerships with cellular providers around the world, 1oT delivers this capability by acting as a middleman for businesses, erasing the need to buy into multiple expensive contracts for deployment.
Märt Kroodo, co-founder and chief executive officer of 1oT, a subsidiary of Mobi Solutions Group, said that he believes the core of the IoT revolution is communications and making that easier opens up new opportunities for business application.
“When we make the devices around us smart, have them communicate with each other and make decisions, we are creating a platform for the creation of unprecedented services and products,” said Kroodo.
The company boasts cellular service connectivity in over 100 countries and says the service is currently in use by thousands of smart devices located chiefly in Central Europe and Asia.
The service brings 2G, 3G and 4G data services through several different mobile operators to provide worldwide coverage by using a Subscriber Identity Module card. The SIM card can be tailored to specific IoT devices and is easily controlled through a dashboard for users an application programming interface for developers.
With 1oT Terminal’s dashboard, startups can get real-time information on all SIM sessions and locations (data on operational devices), get notifications and control SIM or account status. To save money on operations, users can also set SIM data limits to prevent overages and choose network priorities.
For hardware, the platform supports a large number of SIM card form factors for a multitude of devices including Mini SIM, Micro SIM, Nano SIM and the tiny MFF2 designed to be embedded. The company also says that eSIM, an embedded and programmable SIM card, will be coming soon.
The company will be presenting its 1oT Terminal platform during MWC 2017 in Barcelona Feb. 27 to March 2.
