Ribbit: Powerful Developer Voice Platforms [video]

I’ve been absent the last couple hours due to my appearance on the live stream for SxSW over at UStream speaking with Peter Himmelman, Michael Sean Wright, Lucas Hendrickson, Evan White, and Brad Hunstable, and we had a fascinating conversation ranging from topics of augmented reality and the separation (and unification) with the performer and the audience brought about by New Media, and the DMCA notice that UStream was sent by the SxSW lawyers. It’s a panel that went over an hour, but it’s definitely worth checking out once the stream is put up live.

Just before that, I got a chance to speak with Charles Freedman from Ribbit, who’s been developing a great developer platform for unifying voice, text and anything else you can throw at it and mash it up with.

The video runs about 13 minutes (and is completely unedited, edited version to come soon), where he demonstrates and explains their goals, culture and platform.

I was amazed that I hadn’t heard of what was going on with Ribbit before, and if you take a look at their sample apps, you will be too. It seems to rival Google’s voice APIs in their simplicity, if not their scope.

We’ll have more on this later, I’ll be speaking with Best Buy, one of the largest corporate enterprise users of the platform, later this week.
