Ambarella’s New Android Chip Enhances Videos, Photos
There is good news for android users with a thing for photography and video. Ambarella has launched the i-One System on Chip (SoC) for Android phones. This is a Camera Application Processor chip which enables advanced HD camera and multimedia features. Running on the ARM CPU architecture the iOne boasts features as simultaneous still photography with video HD recording, capturing non blurr images even in motion, 3-D photo and video capture, seamless internet connectivity via WiFi, GPS enabled, FM and Mobile TV features. Another fantastic feature is the under 1 second boot time.At the occasion, Ambarella CEO expressed the following thoughts in the official press release as follows:
“Coupling our proven video and imaging processing expertise with the Android platform enables next generation cameras to take a significant leap forward in user experiences and capabilities,” said Fermi Wang, Ambarella CEO. “The iOne will fundamentally change the way consumers capture, create and share visual content. We are very excited about the possibilities.”
The chip space is heating up, as more features and capabilities are demanded around mobile devices. This is why the whole chipset manufacturing industry is quite active with chip initiatives for the mobile sector. Just a few days back Broadcom launched a new chipset, whil Intel came up with a second generation of mobile chips for the mobile sector. AMD is not far behind with it’s fastest chip Radeon 6900.
In other mobile chip news, Microsoft is looking to become more competitive as well. Microsoft is teaming up with ARM for mobile chip manufacturing, creating an aliance that could affect all of the initiatives listed above.
