Lookout: Robbery Suspect Caught Thanks to Smartphone Security App

Police in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania arrested Tyrell Booker, who is suspected in breaking into a home and stealing a number of items, including the homeowner’s undisclosed Smartphone, equipped with Lookout GPS tracking app.

“The incident began when suspect Tyrell Booker allegedly broke into a home on Lamport Road at about 4 a.m. Monday and stood over the bed of the frightened victim.

Investigators say Booker forced his way into home and stole the victim’s cell phone before fleeing.”

In addition to providing some additional publicity to cloud-based Smartphone security solutions provider Lookout Security, this case demonstrates just how big of a market is mobile security.

In our previous coverages of Lookout Security, we discussed how the company secured a handsome $19.5 million in round 3 funding, which involved Accel Partners and Khosla Ventures. Index Partner and former Cisco Executive Mike Volpi joined Lookout’s board of directors.

We also covered more recent news of the company’s response to a particularly sophisticated Android Trojan dubbed Geinimi. Sources say that Geinimi is the first Android maleware with botnet-like capabilities, meaning that mobile security is not a market which is going to slow down or disappear any time soon.
