Seesmic Desktop 2 Updates Emphasise Marketplace, Windows
Next-generation desktop application developer, Seesmic, announced relevant updates on Seesmic Desktop 2, which further stressed their being supporters of Windows. Perhaps the most notable of these updates is the prominent placement of a marketplace on the sidebar. In order to update, be sure you have the latest Silverlight version installed.
Seesmic for Windows Phone 7 can easily be downloaded off the Marketplace with features such as:
* Native and customized dashboard
* Multiple Twitter accounts and Facebook
* Update multiple Twitter accounts at once
* Access user profile, upload links, pictures, geotag tweets
* Organize accounts, searches, lists and trending topics
Seesmic also made subtle but valuable improvement on Windows Phone 7 Video. Timelines are now cached for increased loading speed, improvements with speed and scrolling, display of private and verified Twitter accounts, added animations and transitions, and bug fixes. Seesmic is the latest in a growing line of big-brand apps that are adding support for Microsoft’s growing mobile platform. Windows will need continued support like this for its own marketplace efforts.
Adding a marketplace is not only a great new strategy for interactive portals to take, but it keeps the developer community involved as well. Companies such as Seesmic like having apps and third party services supporting their products, and a marketplace to feature these makes a great interface for the end users.
Several other Seesmic Desktop 2 updates include:
* Customizable settings: adjustable font type and sizes, options added to manage automatic shortening of URLs
* Selecting the width of the columns
* Search for Twitter users by account or by real name
Third-party applications such as Seesmic and Tweetdeck expand beyond Twitter as a social media tool. Twitter could release new exciting updates but it won’t be enough to take down these third-party apps.
