This data company is accelerating production to conquer the last mile
Picture a room of information technology professionals where they are asked a simple question: How many have been working on a data science model that still has not gone into production after nine months? Then imagine that more than 90 percent raised their hands. That is what’s known as a real business opportunity.
“It all boils down to one thing: Companies need to use the data that they’ve been storing for years,” said Ian Swanson (pictured), founder and chief executive officer of Datascience Inc., who posed the above question during a recent conference presentation. “We give the tools to data scientists to get that data in action. That’s the last mile that we’re all working on, and what’s exciting is we can make it possible today.”
Swanson spoke with George Gilbert (@ggilbert41) and Lisa Martin (@LuccaZara), co-hosts of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s mobile livestreaming studio, at the BigData SV event in San Jose, California. They discussed how Datascience tailors its solution for quick action, as well as the importance of analytics in high-value customer retention.
Using trained data scientists
Datascience’s enterprise platform can be deployed on-premises or in the cloud. Although there are a number of companies offering “black box” solutions that automatically ingest data and then produce a result, Swanson believes firmly in using trained data scientists to make progress quickly.
“We work with plenty of smaller companies that hire a couple of data scientists, and they’re able to do small, quick wins,” Swanson said. “You don’t have to go sit in the basement for a year.”
Datascience has been working with a number of clients interested in deriving business value and key customer engagement using analytics. Sales and support operations can play a vital role in retaining top-level customers, with the right data models to encourage a successful outcome, according to Swanson.
“It’s about decision process now, and that’s digital transformation,” Swanson said. “A product like ours is instantly able to give them the compute power and scale it elastically through our cloud partners.”
