Dropbox brings its Showcase presentation tool to the enterprise
Just two weeks after its last major platform update, Dropbox Inc. today is releasing another set of new features for customers.
The enhancements are rolling out for Showcase, a presentation tool that the cloud storage giant introduced six months ago to let users share content in a more visually appealing format. The update comes on the occasion of Dropbox making the offering generally available for companies on its Business Advanced and Enterprise plans.
Showcase was initially available only for personal users subscribed to the Professional edition of Dropbox. The tool provides the ability to organize images and text in a single-page view that can be customized using one of several ready-made templates. Dropbox says that Showcase lends itself to creating everything from portfolio pages to business presentations.
The features that the company introduced today are meant to make it easier for enterprise teams to take advantage of the tool. The arguably most significant enhancement is a new preview option that, according to Dropbox, aims to let users check that a presentation looks right before sending it to the recipients.
Most of the other improvements to the interface are likewise designed to streamline the showcase creation process. New section headers make it possible to separate distinct parts of a presentation with text boxes, while the addition of a showcase copying option will allow workers to reuse their creations. This can be handy in situations where a professional may need to create separate versions of a presentation for different stakeholders, such as executives with diverging areas of interest.
Another new feature that launched today is drag-and-drop upload support for quickly adding files to a support. Showcase recipients, in turn, will from now on see a new button in presentations that will allow them to download all the attached files at once instead of having to grab them individually.
Since Dropbox is targeting the enterprise crowd with today’s update, it’s also releasing controls designed to help companies ensure that workers meet internal security rules. Administrators can now monitor Showcase usage through a new activity log, as well as manage access to presentations created by employees. This includes the ability to regulate when content may be shared with users from outside the organization.
